Your First Dental Visit Made Simple
Welcome to Smile Design Centre, where we are excited to welcome new patients and their families. Our dental team is dedicated to supporting your oral health and overall wellness with compassionate, personalized care.
During your first visit, our dentist will perform a detailed examination and consultation to understand your dental needs and create a customized treatment plan. This page will help you understand what to expect during your initial appointment. For more information, please contact us at (313) 356-7577.
The Dental Exam: What to Expect
- The exam begins with an evaluation of your face and neck. We will visually assess for any irregularities such as swelling, lumps, or unusual changes.
- Next, we will examine the inside of your mouth. During this stage, our dentist carefully checks the soft tissues, including your lips, gums, tongue, cheeks, and palate, for any abnormalities like discoloration or sores. An oral cancer screening is also performed, along with an evaluation of your bite and jaw joint.
- We then assess your gums and jawbone, which serve as the foundation for your teeth. This includes checking for signs of gingivitis, periodontal disease, or bone-related conditions.
- Finally, your teeth will be examined for cavities, wear, or other concerns. Special attention will be given to any areas where you may be experiencing discomfort or have specific concerns.
Digital Impressions
A visual exam alone may not reveal every underlying issue. Certain dental conditions, especially those involving the jawbone or areas beneath the gums, require a more in-depth view.
Digital impressions provide detailed images that allow our dentist to detect hidden concerns such as bone loss or the progression of gum disease. These images play a key role in early diagnosis, helping ensure more effective treatment and better long-term outcomes.
In addition to identifying current issues, your initial digital impressions serve as a baseline reference. This allows us to monitor changes in your oral health over time during future visits.
